Many of them have been saving for years and/or selling all of their possessions/property to pay the couple of $1000s to the traffickers, this doesn't make them wealthy.

So stop accepting refugees and let them get killed in the war zone. After all most of the migrants claim to be refugees, not economic migrants (I'm sure that is not the case but it's besides the point).

Gold jewelry is quite popular in the middle east, in many cases the migrants are selling family heirlooms to raise the money. Also in many cases whole families are pooling their finances to get a couple of family members across with the hope that they will be able to earn enough to send back home and get the rest ofthe family out.

In any case wealth shouldn't matter in case of war refugees.
