I've got a dedicated office at home that I designed and decorated myself in high art deco style. It's got hand made repro 20's lead lights and hidden surround sound system behind original brass floor registers in a 1920's sunburst pattern that I ordered from the States. I sanded the backs off the registers and used some original period speaker cloth to finish them off then fitted them on the ceiling to look like air con vents fitting cube speakers behind. I added stepped coving and a hexagonal ceiling rose plus a plaster art deco "wing" over the door frame. The skirting was replaced with a 1923 reproduction pattern and a repro bakelite light switch was ordered from a specialist firm in Australia. My 1930's framed motor racing posters are all from the same firm in France who produced the pre-war originals. A local firm made curtains for me from some pattern photos taken at an old theatre in the US. The desk and bookcases are reproduction 1920's stylee with cream fronts over bronze with leather handles. I bought some vintage marble photo frames and a 1920's marble clock from various antique shops and Fleabay. The clock garnitures are used as bookends for my collection of cocktail books.

I spend a lot of time in here. You may think I'm quite mad.

Which desk do you use and do you have it so you have to stand up?

I don't have to, but I do switch to standing every couple of hours for a while.

Converted loft with aircon. Electric height adjustable desk (so I can work standing sometimes), posturite adjustable chair. Built in bookshelves for reference material, prefer physical to digital. TV and music, obviously, like working to Bach. Exercise bike.

In terms of Kit, I use a Thinkpad X1 because the keyboard is the best in the business, connected to an old Apple i Mac for a screen. Obviously the heavy work is done remotely on client co server, but I also have a fook off desktop that can handle prototyping on largish data. Experience has told me prototyping on sample data doesn't always scale up

Purpose-built office 3x3m in the house extension built late 2015. Of course, as soon as it was ready I stopped working from home. Hey ho.

I built a manual adjustable height desk a while back out of a few bits'n'bobs including one of those trays for eating breakfast in bed.

However while it only takes 30s or so to switch between modes, it's a bit of a faff and quite physical so I got out of the habit.

I'd love a proper system but object to what they cost. Wish I had the electrical nous to build one... maybe one day...
