I have doubts this was a 'drone' in the sense of a multirotor radio controlled toy.

This was some obscure backwater poverty area in Mozambique - I have doubts that the latest DJI Phantom was high on anybody's christmas list.

Which makes it being a coverup for crashing into a set of stairs on the ground a bit more likely. I note the official reports do not mention drones, so I can only imagine the media have added the drone in themselves.

Just a minute there. it's in the Mail so must be true: Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique plane sees drone rip hole in nose in Mozambique | Daily Mail Online

A drone is believed to have torn holes in the front of a plane carrying 80 passengers after a midair collision in Mozambique.
      ...
The airline told Portuguese news agency Lusa that the possibility the plane hit a drone is 'a speculation'. Authorities are investigating Thursday's incident.
The head of the Civil Aviation Regulatory Authority told Lusa that it's too early to say what caused the damage to the plane.
      Mind you RT states:

A drone smashed into a Boeing plane with 80 passengers and 6 crew on board, causing substantial damage to the aircraft as it prepared to land at an airport in Mozambique.
The Boeing 737-700 belonging to airline Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique (LAM) was operating a domestic flight when it was struck as it approached Tete airport, according to the Aviation Herald.

The crew heard a loud bang but continued their approach, suspecting a bird had struck the plane. However, later examination revealed the damage was more substantial than initially thought and caused by an apparent drone collision.
Gosh, darn and bosh, which one is true?

Sure. They publish some stuff that's correct. But believing that RT is reliable source of information is blind and stupid. People who like rt and consider it more impartial and balanced than the BBC are either the same people who already hate the UK (for the lefty liberals), or (for the dim-witted right wing) despise the BBC because , like the Daily Mail, you whine incessantly over it's apparent liberal bias.

Because Putin is lovely and has only our best interests at heart, and no way would he ever use such an organ for propaganda purposes against Britain's interests.

At least the BBC has a history of annoying governments of all political persuasions - even if it is biased against little Englanders, Scottish Nationalists and Brexiters.

Stupid titles, it's all wrong. If you want reliable news check the source.

The object was not identified and it's under investigation. It's premature to take conclusions even like being a collision with ice.

PS: It's better to correct ice with hail stones or I will get some answers from the experts like "the plane collided with an iceberg.

Looking at the image of the plane, ground collision would seem a more likely solution, but that would look bad on the pilot, the airport or the ground crew.

                      Ground collision, are you serious!!!
Looking at the image it's obvious that was Superman who collided with the plane, he was drunk.
