    Long live the four freedoms!
    The UK isn't allowed to do a deal now because the relevant treaty says a member state must trigger Article 50 before it can enter into negotiations. Therefore May's blathering was irrelevant.

    Seriously, it's not that complicated:
    1. Trigger Article 50;
    2. Negotiations can begin.

    I'm not sure which bit of that process you're failing to grasp.

      I reckon there should be referendum on when to invoke Article 50, anything less is not good enough

        The bit where the EU is far more interested in scoring points than saving lives its not like people are watching.

          Saving what lives, the ones endangered by UK Govt which wrongly accepted nonbinding advisory referendum where the winning side with tiny magin used fraudulent promises???

          It's UK Govt that chosen to hold people hostage, not EUs fault.

                If you consider the height of the British Empire was in 1922 - the British Empire was a good idea of uniting disparate states/nations and countries for the benefit of everyone.

                The decline of the British Empire was for a number of reasons but first and foremost it had stopped producing the benefits it was set up to do - the world had moved on, technology had moved on and so the sun set on the British Empire..

                Modern Germany came into being in 1871 when William I united various prussian states.

                Maybe we need to view this as not Germany is great and is leading the way - more we are a much more mature nation and pretty much ruled the world - however we realised that it was failing for various reasons and we moved on.

                And now we are letting Germany have a go - like you need to let your kids of the leash and make their own mistakes - but the problem seems to be that they cannot understand they are failing nor why they are failing so they are just plowing on.

                So we will step away and let them fall over, graze their knees, cry snot bubbles and hopefully come out the other side with more learning

                      Spoken like a true clone. Process before people.

                      I'm not calling for EU people in the UK to be given certainty. It would be good to give everyone certainty and I would like all people legally in the UK to be told they are able to stay. But if process is more important then so be it.

                      I assume that when the liberals etc. are calling for us to give certainty you will be there with your activity diagram pointing out that we aren't at that particular step yet.
