That would be because the relevant treaty, to which the British government is a signatory, states no negotiation before Article 50

      Jeez!
What is even more astonishing than your blatant ignorance is your delusion of competence.
      Hard Brexit now!

Which is fine but then no point in bleating about residency rights for EU expats until a50 is triggered because we aren't going alone.

Which, to circle back to the topic of the thread, is perhaps why the other EU representatives ignored May's irrelevant and meaningless blathering.

It wasn't irrelevant. The UK would do a deal now and we wanted to emphasise that. A lot of people could know their future now.

Unfortunately it's the stubborn socialist federalists of the EU who treat their drones as cannon fodder that are the problem.

            Long live the four freedoms!

There is a big difference between discussion and negotiation.

We could save a lot of time by discussing all the points in advance so when article 50 passes we can then go straight to negotiation.

But what interest does the EU have in trying to move things along or save time an money? None.

It is all about them and not about the people they represent.

So we (as a country, not me personally) vote to leave the EU in part because of Freedom of Movement then act surprised when the EU suggest British people might not enjoy freedom of movement.

All coming home to roost, isn't it?

                    What?

This isn't about freedom of movement. It's about people already in a country being allowed to stay.

We are happy for those here to stay but before we confirm this we want a reciprocal agreement for our expats. It really isn't difficult.

I absolutely agree a reciprocal arrangement is the way forward and to be honest I think it will have to happen for logistical purposes if nothing else.

Love it or hate it the EU aren't going to give us anything. People who thought they would lay down and give us single market access without any of the commitments were frankly deluded.
