There can also be markers which if missing would mean it is not ADHD. We have had to stop some medication as it's basically sent DS1 stratospheric & a new doctor thinks it's a misdiagnosis and the drug has made it worse.
Hes now about to be tested for allergies/intolerances as thinking is a lot of it can be diet based
It could of course just be crap parenting and it's a mistake that his sister is now head prefect at her school, while he's destined for borstal.
The medical profession will try their best not to help you as it costs money. And because some of them think like you - behavioural issues are caused by bad parenting. You have to hit very hard on a closed door. With alot of effort you can move forwards. I know a few specialists who might be able to help. PM me if you want further details.Comment

Genes and medicine
There's growing evidence that the effectiveness and/or reactions to different medicines can be explained by differences in genes... for one thing.
This is an emerging field, and;
- I don't know if 23andme are geared up to report on it yet
- I don't know if 23andme would send you follow-up reports as the influence of more genes is picked up in future
- The NHS has a '100,000 Genome Project' looking at 'personalised medicine' which covers this area
I hope you've managed to get a CAMHS referral for your son? I wouldn't leave a GP to deal with it.
I imagine you already found this: http://www.kcl.ac.uk/ioppn/depts/mrc...ticsgroup.aspxComment
