Totally agree. Gov can give us rights or treat us as businesses but they can't have their cake. Ipse need to show teeth as the lobbying was a failure (not totally their fault ). At the moment there is no downside for anyone except us...time to start working on the case law ...after all there must be loads of 5yr + ps contractors who ipse could use as studies NOW. They can't wait until April.
I see on ipse they say they will take a careful considered approach and keep talking....but we know that doesn't work.

Let's start seeing the cost of rights etc rather than hoping gov will see sense
Its interesting really, like anything else there is a whole series of people generating income or employment from us, Clients themselves due to wider skill, experience levels, Accountants, Agencies(!), software companies that write software that caters for contractors, Insurances under various guises, HMRC employees, Tax office employees, Criminal / Security Clearance companies, service industries, airlines...late night bars, hookers, coke dealers...etc......

Seems quite a lot to potentially lose

They don't need 5 year plus contractors any with young children will do. After all if they are employees they should have the same rights to flexible working and parental leave. In addition the media likes young children...

TBH if this proposal makes it to the public sector in a years time I will take a perm role and be well out of it, contracting will just not be worth the hassle (travelling, staying away in the week, keeping skills up to date etc) if I'm being taxed as a perm.

We will make the case that average hours worked over the past 12 weeks should be deemed to be the contracted hours of work for those on zero hours as it already is for maximum hours of work under the Working Time Directive.
Not very good for the IBs that like to furlough contractors to cut costs

In addition, what about rate cuts, I'm sure they won't be allowed either?

Surely not for a temp / perm.

seems a lot of flexibility lost and related unemployment.

We can all join <??????> and be on JSA
