Given that Manchester had UMIST as a separate entity for so long and do have a teensy weensy bit of technical history from splitting the atom through to the latest breakthrough in graphene, then it'd foolish not to talk about that. That said, the reporter probably associates Manchester with Corrie, football and MediaCity.
