Milan in "je ne comprende mode".
The primary school that I attended was built in the early 70s to accommodate 25-28 per class. It is now at 35/class and has been for at least 15 years. The first three academic years are split into four classes to accommodate the amount of pupils.

The problem is, if you get back to 30 kids a class max, where do the others go? We have to build new schools in appropriate areas to do this. Where's the money coming from? Oh, wait, he's a socialist, he doesn't care because it's someone else's money!

we need to stop messing about. Align our qualifications with international ones and tel the teachers to succeed or get a new job.

Class sizes need to come down. Lack of investment and ridiculous levels of immigration have caused that.

I'm going to get sprog to do International Baccalaureate.
A-levels are permanently tarnished now, they've become bite sized easy peasy.
IB is accepted by most good unis worldwide and I suspect the education system will change hugely in the next 10 years with online education becoming as good as any other.
        Hard Brexit now!

Why do the political correct in the UK have such a problem with grammar schools? Coming from mainland Europe myself, where it is common to have different levels of education for different levels of ability, I am stunned by the fact that everybody no matter how good or bad have to go through the same education. At least grammar schools help the brighter ones
Smart children will unsmart themselves when they go to comprehensives as they are slowed down by the less bright.
Not everybody can afford -like us contractors- to send their children to private top schools. I'm paying 30k per year but it's an investment I have to make in the absence of grammar schools in my region.

Agree with 90%. The investment versus immigration are proportional problems not directly related with the structure at the basic level, imo.

Because it entrenches the less well off who'd otherwise pay for private tuition for not so smart Oscar 11+ exam.

If we're ever to tackle the big problems in society, such as equality, then the tackling starts right here, at school.

This. Councils sell off land to developers who then wack up loads of houses/flats, etc but do they factor in any new schools for this? Do they buggery! I watched ITN news a while back and it said there are 5000 less primary schools than in 1976.

There'll always be the less smart. You can never be happy without knowing the sad. At the end of the day how can a society succeed through partisanism? They'll forever be dragged down by the less well off who can't afford their first home - oh wait

                    .
So that's a good reason not to have them? because people like you dont want one group to get an advantage so stop it altogether?

Why not develop make entry tests so that coaching makes no difference?

The left will finally have to except that not everybody is equal as far as learning abilities are concerned. Some are good with their hands, let them go to a plumber, electrician, chefs school or whatever in stead of making them struggle through GSCE's which they will fail anyway and many will drop out with no education at all before that. Give them the option to go to school with their peers, learn at their own pace and don't hold up intelligent children and make private education/grammar schools necessary.
