      But it seems May is thinking of re-introducing Grammar schools.

      Personally I think this is a good idea. But not a priority at the moment.
      My parents came from an area of extreme poverty to get to university in the 50s through grammar school. Each year it is not a priority life improvements for families don't happen. It must be made a priority.

      Andrew Neil himself was tweeting about this over the course the week. How he came from a poor household in Paisley, got to Glasgow Uni and now has a bit of painted Weetabix on his head.

        I think the difference was the culture - at his school the boys wanted to do well and got competitive about it. Compared to his footie team where the clever kids were definitely not cool, I think it was a good thing. A-level results next week, so we'll see!
        I've got the London effect where I am.

        So for example the girls grammar near me as as good as the two nearest girls comps. Likewise with the boys grammar.

        You can't do a comparison with mixed sex comps as there isn't a mixed grammar to compare them with, and to be honest their results are worse.

            This isn't the 1950's it's 2016.

            In 2016 where you live and who your parents are determines you life chances more than in 1950.

                Yes, because of grammar schools.

                You are throwing about statements not understanding that they don't prove what you are saying.

                  In your case because of Grammar schools but not in mine and other people I know some of whom are rather rich.

                    John Major
                    =Comprehensive (ex-Grammar).

                    Thatcher = Grammar
                    Blair=Public
                    Brown = Comprehensive
                    Cameron = Public
                    May = Grammar

                    Dunno what I'm trying to say hear but history (but not the Media) does seem to favour those that went to Grammar schools.
