As reported by the FT {behind a paywall - OH}, the Obama administration has begun preliminary discussions with senior UK officials about how they might pursue a trade agreement between the two countries following Britain’s exit from the EU, Washington’s top trade official said.

The discussions were revealed on Thursday by Mike Froman, the US trade representative, and coincide with a growing push by Republican Brexit supporters in Congress for President Barack Obama to launch talks on a commercial pact quickly. ..

Good news by the sound of it, although Of course it depends how equitable the deal is.

Informal talks are not negotiations. Sounds great in the beginning but when trade negotiations begin in earnest then all sorts of interest groups start jumping in which can then make the trade negotiations long and protracted. This all needs to start in Congress.

I don't think anyone disputes there will be trade agreements in place after the UK leaves the EU. If there aren't any then the UK ends up as an economic desert waste land.

We'll probably have to accept whatever deal the Yanks give us on their terms.
Without a credible Labour opposition, the Tories and their private interests can collude with their Yank business friends to carve up bits of the public sector between them.

You have claimed this before, TTIP explicitly rules out state controlled services like the NHS.

I assumed that because the UK had tucked up the USA by leaving the EU and not being able to give them the inside track, the USA would take revenge.
