It's quite an important distinction, but lost on some. And there's no guarantee that after negotiations, Freedom of Movement from and to the EU will disappear.

The vote was to leave the EU. There was no vote on Freedom of Movement. There was no vote on ending net immigration until houses and services are built for any population increase. Perhaps we need a few more referendums?

We get told time after time by other Brexit posters here that the vote was about getting control of our laws, and not about immigration.

As has been pointed out, the vote was to leave the EU, not about what that might look like in reality. The fact that you were sold a pack of lies and promises by people not in a position to keep them is your own fault, it's just a shame that you dragged the rest of us into it as well.

Spouse and children sounds like family members to me.

The point is, non-EU nationals are more likely to seek British citizenship than EU nationals. Those from Asia are also more likely to return to their home countries to find a spouse than other non-EU nationals, and then return to the UK with that new spouse. Couple this with the OP where the UK is seeking greater ties with India, plus the long-running "skills shortage", and we'll be seeing a greater movement of people from SE Asia to the UK.

Net immigration won't change significantly, only the countries.

Part of the attraction of a British passport is the EU citizenship. Brexit might change that and make the UK far less attractive for immigration from any country, thereby exacerbating the skills shortage.

Well, so we moaned about EU, and brexited from it.
Now we have to go and get deals sorted from Non-EU, and we have approached India, and already we brits have started moaning about its consequences of dealing with Indians now
