All very well talking about trade, but what do we have to trade?*. Looking around our house:

Various TVs - LG, South Korean
Fridge, dishwasher, cooker - Siemens, German
Various computers - Apple, Lenovo, HP (all built in China)
    Car - Merc, German
Washing machine and dryer - Miele, German
    Vacuum cleaners - Miele, German

The only British item (although even that is built in the Far East) is a Dyson, but that's in the garage coz it's really crap compared with the Miele. The interesting thing is the German goods are still built in Germany.

We have service industries but those cannot penetrate the closed markets of India or China.

*apart from military equipment and jet engines.

It wouldn't surprise me if Switzerland was preparing trade talks with the UK. It will give them a headstart over the EU which could prove very lucrative.
Down with racism. Long live miscegenation!

If you're right, be interesting to see how long those would take to finalise since presumably both parties are very motivated.
        Still years, no doubt.

So, taking what you have said, it would hardly be in Germany's best interests NOT to expeditiously conclude a deal with us, would it? And where Germany leads, the rest inevitably follow.

Tell me this : Why do you even care? You spend a lot of time and energy slagging off the UK.

Aren't you a German, living in Germany? Why are you even bothered about this democratic decision made by the British people? Is it any of your businesses what path the British people choose to take?

If only the talks were with Germany alone. Unfortunately they're with 27 countries, each of which has a veto.

But in any case, there is another aspect: German goods (expecially luxury cars) are not price sensitive in the UK.
If you're spending 35K on a car or 1K on a washing machine, an extra 10% (the standard tariff) is likely not going to put you off.
If you're French and thinking of buying a Nissan Qashqai or Honda Civic (typical "British" products) though, you'll probably be more price sensitive if they are 10% more, and buy a cheaper Peugeot or Renault.

If you are French then you will buy a French car regardless.

So 10 countries would like to begin trade talks to replace the deals they already have with the UK.

                    What about the other 40?

When we leave the EU not only do we lose access to the single market it looks like we'll have only a handful of deals with countries we already had arrangements with through the EU.

Looks to me like the UK economy will be shrinking for a while.
                    I'm alright Jack
