In Switzerland the law says that anyone who's already here under Freedom of Movement retains their status even if their country of origin pulls out of the treaty. It's possible that was already part of the EU law, or it was added when the Swiss incorporated Freedom of Movement into their own law.

That's perhaps why referenda aren't that popular. Except... the Swiss manage to get along with the majority decisions.
Down with racism. Long live miscegenation!

What's more worrying is they seem to value things like (I'm guessing) cheaper air fares, no roaming fees etc. ahead of democracy and a right to shape our own destiny.

If this referendum had happened in 5 years, with a lower grey vote and more kids it could have been a different story.

Even so, with what was at stake I'm still surprised the majority was only ~3 points.

It's still Great Britain, but only by the skin of it's teeth.

They also seem to think that older people should shaft themselves for the younger.

Rightly or wrongly, if someone believes the EU is responsible for their lack of job, or low pay, I don't see why they should vote in favour of the EU so that a few spotty kids can go interrailing.

Practical real life benefits above theoretical ideological principles? The shock!

Is it still Great Britain when Scotland leaves? Great Britain refers to the island so surely we can't use that name any more. And we're not really The United Kingdom either.
Will work inside IR35. Or for food.

The marriage route to Irish citizenship requires 3 years of marriage residency in Ireland (more or less).

Hardly a shining example of the principle of democracy when you look at it like that. It should have required an absolute majority, and I'm not just saying that because I wanted the status quo to prevail.

I would suggest that it is right that these people types don't get a chance to vote, and so the remainder who could vote were able to fairly do so, no ?

Where did you get the stats from out of interest ?
