So everyone is upset that a celebrity was invited to share his opinion on a TV show whose whole purpose is for people share their opinions, which nobody is forced to watch? What a travesty.

If you don't like the people they invite on (and you can see in advance) don't watch it.

That is not the point. The point is that he probably revealed more about himself than he offered in debate. We are free to watch and form an opinion and if that opinion is that he is a wealthy virtue signalling (how I just love that phrase) attention seeking leftie and the BBC want him to appear, then so be it.

The sole purpose of this TV show (well what should be its primary purpose at least) is for panelists to share their cogently expressed, and preferably informed and reasoned, opinions.

Of course, the actual purpose is as much to entertain and maintain the ratings, but I suppose there has to be an element of that or far fewer people would watch it. So basically Izzard was the token clown (almost literally by the sound of it, although I didn't watch the program).

Perhaps it's a logical mind, but I couldn't see where the contradiction lies in Farage’s argument. Farage is for controlled immigration not foreigners out. It would appear that people hear the latter – I just can’t understand how.

My gut feeling is Izzard has some hang-up – probably due to bullying as a kid – which has resulted in an idealised one love mentality.

Boris Johnson has a different view to his father, Stanley, and MP brother, Joseph, on Europe. His father brought it up when he was interviewed when Boris first stated where he stood. So it's no big deal the Benns have different opinions.

But Tony Benn was a different league IMHO. One of the greatest politicians of the 20th century.

Well yes he's spent his life suffering prejudice and ignorance. Still, labelling his views as a "hang up" is rather close-minded. Might as well say you've a hang-up about not trusting people claiming principles because of YOUR childhood.
