The scariest thing about retirement is spending time with people I'm not getting paid to spend time with.

I bet you wish they hadn't told the shareholders about hiring you nowOriginally posted by MarillionFan View PostI'm mid 40s now and have passive income of 25k a year.
Looking at a shop later this week to buy the Freehold which will either give me a further boost in income or one I can use for myself.
I was going to stop in June, but the share price in
Clientco just wiped out 200k before tax, so will wait a bit longer now.

Oh, the KTM wins hands down off road and for pure madness on road, but the thought of my ears bleeding and dealing with the weird seat/screen height while blasting down the motorway doesn't appeal. And parts, the ubiquity of parts for the GS is what swings it for touring.Originally posted by jamesbrown View PostMeh. The GS is a fat pig offroad
Get yerself a Katoom!
BTW, I assume you mean advrider but, if not, you should get yourself over there.
Also the GS pulls up a trick that other bikes of it's type can't. It doesn't look out of place in the executive car park.
And yes I did.

53. Could retire now. Plan to quit contracting at 55. Current thinking is to buy a place in France, do a bit of farming and tinker with classic cars. Or not. Playing it all by ear....my quagmire of greed....my cesspit of laziness and unfairness....all I am doing is sticking two fingers up at nurses, doctors and other hard working employed professionals...

Yeah, only kidding. The GS eats the miles like nothing else. I personally prefer a carb'ed katoom for any serious dirt or isolation because I know what the issues are, what to pack, and I know I can fix it on (or off) the road. That plus the unbeatable grin factor. The GS is unlikely to break but, when it does, it's not always fixable, esp. with something major like the final drive (I know it's rare, but that has always bothered me about the GS). That said, I'm somewhat in the dark ages - never been particularly keen on FI (inc. the 990s) - carbs are fiddly but fixable. Certainly, the GS is a nice poser though, definitely at home in the executive car park

I'm 37. Not sure when I'll be able to retire from normal work.
At the current rate the mortgage will take another seven years to clear. I'd say 47 or 48 will be the earliest but it depends how investments go.
So I'll shoot for late forties early retirement with enough to carry me through to withdrawing the private pension at 55-60.
Bit depressing, really. I would like more freedom.Comment

If only you had factored in your high blood pressure, fatty liver, excessive cholesterol, BMI > 40 etc, you would stop saving and start spendingOriginally posted by MarillionFan View PostI'm mid 40s now and have passive income of 25k a year.
