I believe he was in a film called Guess Who's Coming To Dinner - which was very much ahead of its time in the way it broached issues of race. I must add it to my queue as I haven't seen it yet.

Add "In the Heat of the Night (1967)", "They Call me Mr Tibbs (1970)", "The Defiant Ones (1958)".

"Guess Who's coming to dinner (1967)": a marriage still illegal in 17 septicland states at the time.

His heart is in the right place - shame we can't say the same about his brain...

To those interested in Mr Poitier's life I recommend his books "The Measure of a Man" and "Life Beyond Measure" - particularly the audible versions which he narrates himself.
Old Greg - In search of acceptance since Mar 2007. Hoping each leap will be his last.
