You can see how "good" Clarkson was in his first show, here:

Note the change in voice, style, accent and Alan Partridge impersonation
he was very recognisable then and the sense of laddishness was there.

Only if you think it will take the same amount of time, and that it took 20 years before Clarkson was worth watching.

I'm still waiting for Clarkson to be worth watching, though, so if it takes the same time then 2036 might be optimistic

Ha - the bunch of fookin right on hipsters who will pay a fortune for anything with a half eaten apple on it have just had a big lesson on brand management and recognition

the 'Top Gear' brand is quite clearly nothing without Jezza (and Hamster and May).

maybe they should have sacked the whinging producer who got a smack in the mouth instead of the guy who made the show work (for the past 20 years)

Top Gear's worst EVER viewing figures as show has lost half its viewers in two weeks | Daily Mail Online

Worst EVER viewing figures for Top Gear: Show has lost half its viewers in two weeks since relaunch and only 2.4m tuned in last night (but those who did said it was better with less Chris Evans)
2.37m watched last night; down from 2.8m last week & 4.3m in first week
Ratings put more pressure on host Chris Evans who has been criticised
He got out of Audi R8 V10 in yesterday’s episode to be sick after feeling ill
Controversial Cenotaph stunt footage was absent from last night’s episode
    Oh dear its imploding.
