How much did he pay for his cataract surgery? Could he have afforded it at all under a system of private medicine?

More generally, why do you allow yourself to be duped by politicians like this? They starve the NHS of resources precisely so they can get support for privatising it. Do you think they want to privatise it because that'll be better for you, or your father, or any patient? Of course not.

You, and your father, and everybody else, are to them just things from which money can be made; and if there is no money to be made from someone, let them rot. And you fall for it, like sheep hurling themselves into the slaughterhouse.

I would cut out some of the treatments in the NHS like fertility treatment.

Spend the money on childhood leukaemia instead.

        The elephant in the room is;

        1) health expectations are rising.
        2) health treatments are getting more expensive.
        3) The post war baby boom are getting old and sick and placing more demand on the NHS.

I think there is some confusion over privatisation Vs paid healthcare (myself included, probably).

You can 'privatise' the NHS and still have it 'free' i.e. funded by the government. Much of our infrastructure is built and maintained by private companies but they are paid by the government... it's simply outsourcing the work out on the basis this is more cost effective.

So is this technically privatisation, or does privatisation imply paid for by the user? If the NHS budget is spent on private companies in order to get a better QoS (allegedly) but Joe Public still gets free healthcare, is that privatisation or not?

Privatisation = 100s of companies all making a slice of profit...

Great' so only the affluent have access to medicine rather than the great unwashed- bring it on!

And answering to shareholders who require their business run properly. And paying taxes.

Meanwhile if we adopted the German system we'd be very likely paying less for better.
                I'm a smug bastard.

NHS is not value for money. It needs replacing.

My own experiences and those of family and friends have shown it to be shoddy at best. If it were the cheapeast health service in the World I could understand it, but it is not.

It is however a political sacred cow, so will continue to suck billions of tax payers hard earned whilst killing many of them needlessly.

You forgot the population explosion due to unfettered immigration

It's obviously working in the US.
Will work inside IR35. Or for food.
