Taking pay cut for part-time dream gig

Never thought I'd be doing this but I have an interview this week and expecting an offer (based on conversations so far).

I'm taking a 20% rate cut to go into a dream role for 10 months. Also I will be working 4 days a week so I have the extra day off or to make use of for plan B. Plan B requires some travelling to London if it takes off.

I'm sick of thinking about money and I'd like to have some fun now!

I think you are missing some pertinent info. Where are the two gigs you are comparing? London vs a local one isn't a level playing field so you could argue you are not really taking a cut. And is that 20% excluding expenses in the higher end gig? Take all that in to account and it's much more palatable.

Contracting is a long career. You'll get the better along with the down right averages. Take it all in your stride and invoice on.

I took a rate cut and moved into BAU support last year solely because it was within 3 miles of home via a cycle track.

Two renewals down the line and I'm back into project stuff, rate is above my norm, and I still get to cycle.

Live the dream - it might be even better than you expect!

P.S. But it's still not a very good gig, and it's raining today.

20% lower with just the 4 days? Or 4 days and 20% off this too?
