One advantage of a cheap tablet is that you can refresh it with the latest model several times over, for the same outlay as your iPad air2/air3. Your wife might prefer to always have something less than a year old, rather then a heavy, ageing "flagship".
Tablets and phones age quickly. By which I mean: manufacturers stop supporting them quickly. Samsung does anyway.
That reminds me, I need to install the iOS 9.1 update on the iPad 2 I bought back in 2011.

I just installed PCLinuxOS 2013 on a 1998 laptop. And it is usable for browsing and running Office. Just. Apparently Windows 7 would also work. Could phone/tablet makers support their old kit in the same way ? Or do they remove support just to make us throw stuff in landfill ?
