What are you playing with right now?

Video Games.

Always used to partake in the past (Speccy+2, Amiga, PS1, Xbox, PC, 360, PS3) but the march into the arena of middle aged-ness has brought with it a distancing from an enjoyable pastime, which I think needs rectifying with the nights closing in. Nothing needing too much commitment, an hour or so in an evening would be good.

Any suggestions? I tend to steer towards 'building' type games, or open world, or just good puzzles. Transport Tycoon Deluxe was a good one and still going (OpenTTD). I have a 'no magic' policy not adverse to upgrading the graphics card in the PC so I can play modern games at a decent refresh rate run Office 2013 effectively when I work from home. I've looked at Minecraft but I don't quite, 'get' it..

Minecraft is the digital equivilent of lego crossed with boulder dash, and with monsters that come out at night

For sim stuff the new XCom and Xcom2 are worth a look, Civilization is as good as it ever was (just more complicated)

If the No Magic thing is a firm policy then Elite: Dangerous is probably worth a look for an Open World multiplayer RPG'ish game. Especially if you played the original.

For a Shooter give Team Fortress 2 a go if you haven't already. Easy and quick to pick up for a few rounds, no huge learning curve to be able to compete and not as filled with Elitist jerks as Counter Strike. Won't need a huge upgrade either.

Company of Heroes for me at the moment until Starcraft II: Legacy of the Void is out.
