Thanks for this. It has exact parallels with what should be happening in Syria - the refugees to go the nearest safe country (in this case, Jordan or Turkey) and are looked after until it is time to return them to their own country. The UK is even chipping in financially to help Jordan, which appears to be more than some surrounding countries in that region are doing.Originally posted by darmstadt View Post

I'm surprised that at the very least the international community hasn't appointed some kind of figure head to be responsible for banging people's heads together / pulling strings behind the scenes to get this mess soreted out.

I see the UK Government is continuing its noble tradition of inviting dodgy governments with shabby records on human rights to buy more arms to: DSEI 2015 - Welcome to DSEI, this goes some way to helping those that everyone moans about. Those invited include: Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Egypt, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Colombia, Ukraine, Algeria, Angola, Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Kenya, Kuwait, Lebanon, Malaysia, Morocco, Nigeria, Oman, Philippines, Qatar and USA.
Its quite interesting that a number of these countries have been severely criticised by the UK for their human rights records yet get invited to this event by the UK Governement to buy more arms. Mind you, it shouldn't surprise anyone as UK companies secured export deals for weaponry worth £8.5bn and security equipment worth £3.4bn in 2014, cementing the UK’s position as the second largest exporter of defence equipment behind America which goes to show that the act of killing and suppression of people and the profit that goes with it is more important than supporting people...
