So if your local comp was a failing school and you had a choice to send the child elsewhere then presumably "out of principle" you would send them to the local comp

Nationalising trains, utilities, free university all looks good in speeches and in principal. But then you have to raise tax somewhere else to pay for all this. Who pays ? Increasing corporation taxes ? Income taxes ? A plumber, bricke could say I didn't go to Uni, don't use trains why should I be subsidising them ?

I don't make much use of the NHS and I don't have children getting free education, but the argument I shouldn't be contributing to such things is a poor one.

And isn't the whole point of privatised trains - as with telecoms - that operators running them as a business do so to make a profit? Therefore, why would nationalising them lead to increased taxation to pay for them?

In it's last two years of operation East Coast Trains ( renationalised after National Express walked away because they couldn't make money out if it) was one of only two rail franchises to return more to the treasury than it received in subsidy. In march the government handed it over to Virgin. Lets see how much it costs in the next couple of years.

But at least train travel and electricity would be cheap as chips. Who cares about some disruption every now and then. What we need in this country is the kind of disruption that Corbyn will bring about, he will teach the private rail companies a right proper lesson.
