Time off between contracts

I am working away a lot, very wornout, and seriously thinking of taking a month or two off in the France apartment when current gig comes to an end.

Torn between taking such a long break as I am kind of worried about getting used to not working for a living, or to just take a week off then get back to the grindstone looking for the next gig.

Just wondering who literally switches off for a while, and who uses the downtime to actively search? Has anyone taken time off and given up with working for longer than planned?

No real outgoings, mortgage sub £200 a month, would happily pick and tread grapes in France if needed…..

If you can afford to do it, and have no dependents then definitely do it.

The wife and I took 18 months off after leaving my last ever permie gig and travelled all over the place. Great experience which we could never do now we have a bunch of kids.

Hmm. Lots of contractor posts in General. Seems to be a continuation of a theme recently but most of the others have been a few post wonders. Interesting.

I leave this gig tomorrow, having been here since last November. I haven't the slightest intention of starting another gig for at least three months, and Christmas being so close after that probably means I won't start one until New Year at the earliest. Fine by me

I take a voluntary sabbatical when i can, last year had the whole summer off and this year took 2.5 months.

I work to live not the other way round...

I maybe wrong, but I don't think anyone 'literally switches off', we are all human and therefore don't have switches. Are you planning on starting all you statements with 'So' any time soon?

I'd suggest that you spend a couple of weeks at Cape D'agde in France. You see both inspiration and depression there:

Inspiration - Good ladies bouncing their tits on the beach.

Depression - Having to see fat men waving their willies on your face.

I was down that way in May.

Didn't know there was a noddy beach there.

I have often taken off 3 months, but spent it looking. One time 6 months in the credit crunch.

Like the OP I am worn out. Planning to leave soon and take the rest of the year off, and NOT look.
