I'd have to add that I don't feel any compassion for companies that can't keep track of their contractor's work.
Unless you're inside IR35 you should be able to lie on a sunlounger all day sipping chilled 7up while models rub your back, just as long as you deliver the work.
It's really the clients to blame that don't keep track, they hire someone, give them crap instructions then 3 weeks later look at the result and realise it's not what they wanted because they changed the requirements 30 times and didn't bother to say anything or ask for a status update.
There's a little cross-over in that they should be hiring a professional and you won't know they're crap for a few days, but you should be checking on them at least a little bit, and monitoring their progress so you can tell if they're slacking off, and you should be getting good references.
