I'd have to add that I don't feel any compassion for companies that can't keep track of their contractor's work.

Unless you're inside IR35 you should be able to lie on a sunlounger all day sipping chilled 7up while models rub your back, just as long as you deliver the work.

It's really the clients to blame that don't keep track, they hire someone, give them crap instructions then 3 weeks later look at the result and realise it's not what they wanted because they changed the requirements 30 times and didn't bother to say anything or ask for a status update.

There's a little cross-over in that they should be hiring a professional and you won't know they're crap for a few days, but you should be checking on them at least a little bit, and monitoring their progress so you can tell if they're slacking off, and you should be getting good references.
Unless you're the lead dog, the scenery never changes.

Not many banks allow that. I've done it myself however. Remoted into my PC in the London office from my flat in the Med. I got a lot of work done in those few months. But I had that bank by the short and curlies because I was the only one who had all the requirements plus a knowledge of their large code base plus 10 years of trust from the boss from previous gigs. I'd like to get that kind of gig up and running again later this year. That's what I call contracting. Not hacking C# with a bunch of students on an industrial estate in Slough for 250 quid a day.

The Stacey Dooley program on extremism in Luton was a bit of an eye opener.

Quite like Stacey, she might be a bit dumbed down for BB3 to connect with the yoof but her programs are OK and she is quite tasty.

Socialism is inseparably interwoven with totalitarianism and the abject worship of the state.

No Socialist Government conducting the entire life and industry of the country could afford to allow free, sharp, or violently-worded expressions of public discontent.

I wonder if the increased Americanisation of UK culture contributes at all - in the US a 'contractor' is very different to the UK meaning.
