I was surprised by this hike, but think it completely justified. There are too many large and highly profitable companies relying on state (i.e. tax) top-up for their underpaid staff.

Similarly, such companies that do not invest in the development and training of people but just wait for the state to fund it is unreasonable in my view. Yes, the state has a duty to educate the population to help our competitiveness, and individuals have a duty to invest in their own future, but companies should pay their part as well. All that has happened over the last few years is that far too many companies have exploited apprenticeship schemes as cheap temporary labour pools.

Minimum wage jobs are mostly unskilled jobs, which by definition anyone can do. Investing in training is a waste of time. Perhaps the greater question is why are there so many unskilled people who can't do anything better? And that comes back to education.

I was against Minimum Wage, but I've changed my mind. A race to the bottom wouldn't be constructive, and although minimum wage does guarantee a certain amount of unemployment, it's probably better than the alternative. And I'm sure we all agree that giving benefits to people in work is crazy.
