Decent permie job? You do nothing but whinge and say you want to go back to contracting!
    Money vs Work Life Balance.

    It's a bitch of a decision.

      Why only choose one?

Contracting gives me enough money to take as much time off as I want, when I want.

And my job gives me so much money now, but with no time off, then I can squirrel away for later and won't have to work.

        Swings and roundabouts.

My parents were nervous for me - I'm known for being somewhat risk adverse, so they literally didn't believe me when I told them I'd handed in my notice with nowhere to go.

Now it's just what I do - I don't go into extreme detail about finances, but I'm happy enough to tell them what day rate I'm on to give them an idea that we're really not struggling.

I don't think anyone really cares about it, to be honest.

My immediate family view it as a source of income. Everyone else just thinks of me as "the rich one".

There are lots of management jobs out there paying £150K plus benefits, but some here think their £200 a day is somehow stellar.

Contractors are just upper class proles looking down on their middle and lower peers. I am of the Inner Party.

Hes a bit incredulous at this - oh dear better not tell him any more.

I've also got a bit of a nasty inlaw (sister-in-law I can't stand) who constantly digs that we're lucky to have the income (that pisses me off) so I keep smiling and telling her my salary is £10K a year.
I have the same, she works on a front desk. Always moaning about how lucky we are and subsequently causes all manner of crap for my mrs with their parents.

The difference being she chose to breed early and couldn't be arsed working, we delayed having kids and put ourselves through uni, but yeah it's all luck...

I derive great enjoyment from not telling her how much I earn but causally mentioning our new purchase or next holiday. Really winds her up.

You lot must have some weird family if they are obsessed with what you earn and how you earn it.
