"Do you have an engineering degree??? I suspect the answer is no in which case you are not a bloody engineer"

Whoo I'm a scientist. Where do I get my white coat from.

BTW I'm an engineer, of the networking variety. Didn't do a B.Eng though, but I figure my 15 years of actual work, paid for by businesses plus countless years of study none of which was funded by tax payers justifiers my job description ;-)
You earn certain titles through academic acheivements, one of these is Engineer. Unfortunatly through the 80's everybody and thier dog thought they would rename thier job to make themselves sound more importnant and started adding engineer to thier job titles. It's a bloody travesty, why don't you start calling yourself a doctor while you're at it, or how about Lord/Lady.

You may well have lots of years experiance and you may well be the best in the country at your job but you really don't have any right to call yourself an Engineer unless you have done an Engineering degree. I blame the bloody socialists who want everybody to feel important by giving them swanky sounding job titles in an attempt to make thier pitiless existance slightly better.

I have to disagree, (BTW I've got a B.Sc Comp Science).

Network Engineer is more indicative of what I do, more so than being called a 'network scientist', and a big step up from a network administrator. I design networks, I test them, I deploy them, I troubleshoot and maintain them. All fall within the remit of 'Engineer' in my book.

It's got nothing to do with making myself sound more important, it's (Used in it's correct context) a reasonable description of my job to my peers. I'm pretty sure that America isn't socialist and that I beleive is where the title originates from.

And when engineering takes on a whole new 'status' in the realms of degrees then you can have your special title, until then you're just a bloody undergraduate like the rest of us, unlike a Dr who's earned the right through extensive study and original work, or a Lord/Lady who probably hasn't earned it but is named for equally distinct reasons.

Not anywhere near as bad as it is in the States though.

Once I picked up a newspaper in the lobby of the hotel and it was addressed to the 'Vice President of Housekeeping Services, The Courtyard Marriott, Edinburgh Way, Cary.

So that will be the second cleaner then.

Anyway you will make more money as a plumber in London than as an engineer.

Yawn. If you keep telling yourself a falsehood then eventually you'll come to believe it. Still posting manufactured data as fact from sites that can't be pinged?
