They did not get 12% of the vote for <1% of the seats.
They got whatever %age of the vote where they stood and won seats based on that.

Are you suggesting they should win seats where they were not even fielding a candidate, based on share of national vote? If they run out of candidates based on share of national vote should they just find someone on the street and give them a job as the MP to fill up the seats?

The SNP got a high share of the vote where they were standing, a small share nationally. You suggest that someone getting, e.g. 50% of the vote in their constituency should be denied a seat, while someone getting a single figure share in their constituency should get a seat based on their party doing well elsewhere.

    How democratic.

Yeah, but he was talking about share of the vote in Scotland. HTH

Under proportianl representation the results would look like:
        1. CON | 36.8% | 239
        2. LAB | 30.5% | 198
        3. UKIP | 12.6% | 82
        4. LIB | 7.8% | 51
        5. SNP | 4.8% | 31
        6. GRN | 3.8% | 25
        7. Other | 3.7% | 24

So with FPTP we are more likely to get a majority government, is that good or bad though after our first taste of a coalition since the war

Glad the Tories won enough to form a majority.

Obviously none too happy about Farage but UKIP did do well in a load of seats, so now they'll have to reappraise their seat targeting for 2020. In a way they've already extracted concessions on the EU, immigration and tax thresholds that'll appease the Eurosceptic wing of the Tories. Hopefully Boris will succeed Cameron and Ukip will be in a position to contend in seats where they're strong challengers to Labour. I'm sure they'll now begin pushing for PR or FPP reforms due to their broad but dispersed vote share.

The SNP threat, concessions on immigration and the EU referendum and Miliband's unconvincing, inept character have probably all helped, and I hope they now deliver on their promises. Good riddance to all the Labour and LD losers from this election.

What happens to UKIP if the country votes overwhelmingly in favour of staying in the EU in 2017 (as I expect we will do if we get a better deal)? Does that not make their entire reason for existence irrelevant?
