I can't shake the feeling that a lot of people got into the voting booth and their pencil hovered over Labour, but they just couldn't bring themselves to vote for Miliband. It would explain why the polls were so wrong. I can't see why people would be lying in the run up to the election.
People not telling the truth and/or not making their minds up till the last minute is why the polls were wrong. The exit poll - where you are asking people who have voted and have made a decision - was accurate.
I heard a BBC interview with an undecided voter last week. Didn't know who the PM was. Didn't know who Miliiband was, but had heard of Farage, who was a minister. Didn't know who to vote for but thought the Greens had the right idea. Hadn't actually registered to vote: "Oh well, I'll do it for next year"...
And you expect to predict anything with that level of awareness in the mix?

Plenty of reasons not to vote Labour
Socialism is inseparably interwoven with totalitarianism and the abject worship of the state.
No Socialist Government conducting the entire life and industry of the country could afford to allow free, sharp, or violently-worded expressions of public discontent.
