£300/day contractors should be driving 5 year old Skodas/Passats

Didn't think you've be advocating foreign cars coming over here = the good old British car (Rover, Leyland-Daf, Triumph to name but a few) can't compete, while bringing with them the HGV virus, never mind the strain on public transport services tut tut what would Farage say...
I was a contractor on 350 a day and I drive a 10 year old Mondeo. Although my last commute has pretty much killed it. Tyres 60 quid a corner
+1 - though I'm considering getting rids of my 10+ year old Astra and for something else now. I'd much rather spend my money on toys, motorbikes and classic cars but each to their own when all said and done.

Just 'cos you've got money doesn't mean you should waste it. Far richer people than us lot have ended up in rags...
I learnt when I was little only the nouveau riche drove new cars. Real money drove very old cars especially Land Rovers which are damn uncomfortable to sit in.
