That means someone couldn't do virtually any driving, construction or engineering job.

You see how ridiculous your ban becomes...

Edited to say: Actually you wouldn't be allowed to drive at all. I've just remembered that guy who drove into a train, derailed it and killed lots of people.

I disagree. Lufthansa has been trying to get pilots on the cheap; a recipe for disaster.

How would you feel if a paedophile was treated and certified fit to run a kindergarten?

There are more people who want to be commercial pilots in Europe than jobs for them.

As long as they're not a celebrity it wouldn't be difficult to get them jailed, but then you pretty much described TOTP or Jim'll Fix It
Socialism is inseparably interwoven with totalitarianism and the abject worship of the state.

No Socialist Government conducting the entire life and industry of the country could afford to allow free, sharp, or violently-worded expressions of public discontent.

You are not talking about this pilot though - you rule would effect everyone who's job had the ability to risk people's lives should they try to kill themselves e.g. pilots, train drivers, bus drives, taxi drivers, lorry drivers, search and rescue helicopter pilots.

Hence they would simply not report mental health problems to anyone or it would cost them their career. Someone with a house and a few children who are all depending on their salary would soon be able convince themselves that it was nothing and just carry on until they were no longer capable of coping.

In the long run you are going to end up with far more problems than you solve.

On the other hand, you'd have dealt with people who come up with insane ideas like this.

Someone = about 25% of the population being told that they cannot work in a swathe of industries, operate heavy machinery, drive cars, etc.

Yes, it's very easy to pretend that this pilot is the only person in the world to have ever suffered from depression and so there's an easy solution.

                    There is no easy solution.

I'm not talking about people who are depressed, I mean people who have been diagnosed medically of having suicidal thoughts, so more like < 1% of the population There is no way they should be let anywhere near a plane's controls. Considering color blind people can't be pilots I don't think it's too much to ask.
