Which begs the question: what proportion of immigrants to the UK are better qualified than the average Brit (quite a large proportion, I expect, despite some of the rags focusing on low-skilled immigration)?
Indeed migrants are generally better qualified than the local Brits. Which means the oppositie of dumbing down is happening.

Migrants are better qualified than workers born in UK, says study - Education News - Education - The Independent

Interestingly if you stop immigration but allow emigration then you will get a dumbing down as all the bright people would emigrate.

Ability to drink tea isn't a particularly a sought after skill, so they'd qualify as immobile with a caravan.

Where do you get the equation "Migrant = brighter " from?

In my own limited experience people become brighter as a consequence of migration, not the other way round. You always pick new skills when you move to another country, and this is for me the only, but powerful argument pro immigration.

Even if you are bright, it takes time for your skills to be recognized in a foreign country, usually because of a cultural barrier.

Thanks for the link. I would've guessed as much; you'd need to be a regular of the Torygraph or Fail to not spot the irony in a headline like that.

these would be the ones coming in on a VISA? Guess what? the visa system works, which is why most sensible people want it extended to cover the rest of those coming into the UK.

You will find a larger proportion of people owning a Ferrari are richer than average, you cannot extend that to everyone owning an Italian car is richer.
Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much.

It is misleading because young graduates are arriving from Eastern europe and doing low skill jobs

                I repeat:

More importantly however, when examining skills/occupation matches, a strong evidence of over-qualification
and the corresponding underutilisation of EU-10 migrant workers’ skills emerge as a pervasive
phenomenon. While British nationals and EU-15 citizens in the United Kingdom are employed mainly in
white-collar jobs (56% and 64%, respectively, in 2010), for EU-8 and EU-2 migrants, the corresponding
figures are 18% and 21%. With comparative skill levels, this is a huge difference. As regards Italy, while
nationals are almost equally distributed between white-collar and blue-collar jobs, the foreign-born
population is fairly polarised. Eight out of 10 EU-15 citizens are employed in white-collar jobs, thus
taking advantage of their higher level of human capital. On the other hand, 86% of EU-8 and 95% of
EU-2 migrants have blue-collar jobs. The jobs-to-skills mismatch and thus the underutilisation of human
capital of EU-10 migrant workers which has been highlighted by our results points to one of the biggest
challenges with regard to recent intra-EU labour mobility. This phenomenon also points to a failure of
migration-related policies that could help to improve the efficiency of cross-border labour mobility

Not only those on a VISA

They are not "highly skilled" they are "highly educated". They are not competing "like for like" in the jobs markets that our own graduates are competing in. They are competing with the low skills markets of Cafes, restaurants, retail outlets.

Those with proper Visas are targeting the high end jobs that they are qualified for

And they are winning those jobs. Clearly the local "talent" isn't up to the task. And, as I've said before, productivity in the UK is rubbish, and migrants worker faster, harder for the same money. Unless everyone is prepared to be even more ripped off than we already are.
