What, no embracing them with his brotherly love? Surely that would be the Christian thing to do. Break the cycle of violence and show them his way is better, being prepared to die for his beliefs rather than give in to the path of hatred and retribution.

The terrorists have won for the simple reason that we have given up so much of our freedoms, long fought for to deal with them.

They have succeeded in turning what was a liberal western democracy into a country where you can be jailed for up to a month without trial, without even knowing what you are being charged for. We have seen the innocent shot on the streets and other rights being curtailed to deal with it, such as not being able to carry what you want on to a flight. We have been turned into bigots by the fear engendered by their activities, such that we judge all from the same racial group in the same way.

Such curtailment is to deal with the war on terrorism, but such a war will never be won because it will never end. If we have given up these rights to deal with the war on terror, then we have given them up in perpetuity.

Ah yes, Islamic terrorism only started with the Iraq war! They were all sitting at home peacefully saying their prayers before that. Quite true, it was an idiotic blunder but whether it has made things all that much worse than they would have been I am not so sure. There have been failed attempts at bombings in both France and Germany whose governments had the sense to oppose the war. Meanwhile the casualties of other nations who never had anything at all to do with the war continue to rise.
