Not that bit. I've heard too many conflicting stories about it.

    The bit about working.

He was not allowed to appeal, which in itself is crazy.

The conviction itself rests on things that in my view are hardly BEYOND REASONABLE DOUBT.

      And his friend walks free!

Either way regardless of his conviction he is out from jail, yes he SERVED JAIL TIME AS LAW SUGGESTS, now he should get the right to get the job, subject to limits put on him legally (ie not in girls only school), and get on with his life to repay the debt to society and his victim via tax he pays.

        Its about the money

No-one wants to have their brand/image associated with this individual, so they will remove their financial support from any club that signs him. The club would fail financially so they don't sign him. Nothing to do with the Rehabilitation of Offenders.

But some clubs wanted to sign him up!!!

It was only after massive mass media outcry they had to drop him!

It's not like it was just him complaining nobody wants to sign him, instead he is being followed by mob who now thinks it's ok to make death threats and apparently even rape threats (!) to the club officials if they sign him up, just can this possibly be OK?

He does not believe that this amounts to rape, though, which is the basis for his appeal. The facts are that she was unable to consent because she was so drunk.

Whether he believes he is innocent or not, until yesterday, he had made no attempt to apologise for his actions or the actions of his friends and the impact that they had on the 19 year old girl concerned - which have resulted in her needing to move and change her identity because of the way she has been hounded.

There are plenty of jobs that he can go and do, but no-one has the right to expect that when they are out on licence they should be able to walk back into their chosen career, particularly one where (rightly or wrongly) the people are held up as models that young people want to copy. In a few years time, will there be a call for Rolf Harris to be able to pick up where he left off? I doubt it.
Ok so tell what jobs you think he can go and do ? I take it you are happy that he works alongside other people in certain jobs but just not as a footballer? Tell me which law you are quoting which determines which jobs the public judge someone with a record is deemed fit for?

All threats of violence to the people of the club are completely wrong.

Only because of the mob hype and public demanding blood (for whatever fancy reason is popular at the time)

The Act exists in order to assist ex offenders in reintegration by, after set periods, allowing certain convictions to be spent. With some exceptions, spent convictions don't need to be disclosed to employers. Unspent coconvictions do have to be disclosed and employers can make a decision as they wish.

Not only is his conviction unspent, the clock hasn't even started yet.

Whether you agree with the judgement or not is a separate issue because in the eyes of the law he is a convicted rapist.

If the law really believed that criminals should be able to walk out of prison and then into a job as though it never happened then the act would have all convictions as immediately spent. But it doesn't.

The public are allowed to express their opinion as long as its peaceful. A club can sign him, but fans may stop coming to games or buying club merchandise, it is their choice.
