Isn't that because before they were banned there were, by definition, no illegal ones? -
Easier to classify as all would be illegal I would guess. So if the police came across a handgun then it was illegal - full stop.Originally posted by MyUserName View PostIsn't that because before they were banned there were, by definition, no illegal ones?Comment

There is a lot more behind that one that was never given much credence in mainstream press and TV news.Originally posted by zeitghostOr the Dunblane nutter

I read this one as a tragic, bizarre accident that's been blown up as a good news story. In fact, that it can BE such a big news story only highlights what a freak occurrence this is.Originally posted by TykeMerc View PostA killing by a 2 year old.... Good grief, how can people let it happen that a 2 year old can come into contact with, let alone discharge a handgun? Pure, unadulterated stupidity.
I don't see this as being useful to support either pro OR anti gun arguments.Originally posted by MaryPoppinsI'd still not breastfeed a naziOriginally posted by vetranUrine is quite nourishingComment

That's what insurance companies are used for - to price young people of the road.Originally posted by AtW View PostWhat about nearly 4000 people dieing on the road, including horrible crashes where young drive with their friends kill everybody in a car by crashing it???"You’re just a bad memory who doesn’t know when to go away" JRComment

It's actually useful for anti-gun arguments regardless how strong you want gun control.Originally posted by d000hg View PostI read this one as a tragic, bizarre accident that's been blown up as a good news story. Only in the sense of "dangerous things shouldn't exist because they're dangerous" arguments though? I wonder how many people are killed/injured every year due to very small children getting their hands on power tools, car controls, etc - probably more parents are killed by tripping over toys left on the stairs!Originally posted by SueEllen View PostIt's actually useful for anti-gun arguments regardless how strong you want gun control.
I'm actually fairly anti-gun, certainly the ability to treat gun ownership as a casual thing or carry one around with you as a matter of course, but again this just seems too much a (horrible) freak accident to suggest things should be different.Originally posted by MaryPoppinsI'd still not breastfeed a naziOriginally posted by vetranUrine is quite nourishingComment

As you're fully aware: the point is that if the lady didn't actively carry the handgun (a device designed and built purely for the purpose of killing humans) then she wouldn't have been killed by the two year old.Originally posted by d000hg View PostOnly in the sense of "dangerous things shouldn't exist because they're dangerous" arguments though? People die because of many causes, silly and serious and people take risks all the time, some risks can be mitigated significantly like NOT carrying a loaded handgun.Comment
