When should I stop mowing the lawn?

Strangely, your lawn is in one of the high growth periods and will continue to grow for as long as the GROUND temperature is above 7C (thereabouts). The high rainfall, along with the mild temperatures will ensure that it continues to grow.

Now is the time to fertilise with a low Nitrogen specialised winter fertiliser to encourage root growth and keep moss at bay (the winter fertiliser has ferrous sulphate in it which will green your lawn up and blacken / kill the moss).

You should continue to mow, but set your mower on to the highest setting so that all you do is "top" the lawn - you only want to take off a maximum of a third of the blade.

Now all I need to know is how to remove all the perishing (alas anything but literally!) dandelions from the lawn!

My issue is how to stop the moss encroaching in the wet dark corner of the garden. I raked it out in spring and there was no lawn left after. Sowed new seed and it did well but I see the moss is starting to come back already.

The head gardener normally allows the various grass squads to stop when it gets dark as the tractors don't have lights.

As already stated it stops growing when it reaches 5c.

Unfortunately if you in the Southern part of the country in recent years it means it will grow into December and start again in March.

Generally I stop mowing the garden lawn when it gets too wet in November.

Use a butter knife to dig the roots out.

You can also get devices like this which costs under a fiver from a decent garden store.

I've been told if you don't dig weeds like dandelion out, in the end you will have to dig out a entire massive patch and then re-turf it.

Feed 'n' weed during the growing season. Multitasking y'see...

For those that survive the first round (or two) of F&W, then take them on individually with a spot weedkiller.

Your local garden centre can point you in the right direction although, if it's anything like the one near us, there's not so much gardening stuff right now as it's mostly been displaces by Shyte Xmas Tat

I've got an unpowered mower. The grass has never been healthier. Not suitable for a large lawn though, if you cut it on your own.
