8%? What you talking about? The oil will be divided geographically and unless they have recently found oil in the Channel you will be getting 0%.

I think the oil is the answer. iScotland can get its own currency and peg it to sterling. It will have a good credit rating (assuming it doesn't renege on its share of UK debt) and can borrow foreign reserves, using oil reserves as collateral if necessary, to support pegging the currency.

It's all very reasonable. However, many Scots are nervous about it, so unfortunately Salmond has cooked up this CU fantasy to try to get the vote through the door, before picking a fight with Westminster, blaming mean old UK on denying a CU and then introducing an independent currency, which is what the SNP wants anyway.

I agree with you, I would prefer eventually a separate currency backed by a huge oil fund. See below for the potential.

It looks as if a small portion of the oil will come to rUK, but you are broadly correct.

International laws and treaties, or is this something else "wee eck!" hasn't told you?

If you choose not to abide by international laws, what makes you think that any claim on the resources currently within UK waters are still valid?

It's the only sane answer. The Yes campaign position on CU / sterlingisation + renege on debt is utterly shameful.

UK made 4.7 billion last fiscal year through oil.

Scotland's last deficit was £14.2 billion.

We make more out of financial services than oil but that seems not to bother any nationalist.

The next few years will be bad, 2008 will seem like a blip.

Oh yeah, that will be peachy. More bigoted fookwits like you getting to air their blinkered views.

Yes, but only a simpleton would draw that conclusion. I see what you did there!
