That is partly because this dismal science is not capable of giving wholly (and sometimes even partly) accurate forecasts about the future prosperity of nations.

Economics is a social science.

The models are done using social assumptions.

Which we know and have experienced are often wrong.

Hence the only thing they can do is look at other situations with similar circumstances.
