While that's great for consumers, it seems a bit weird that one can't levy a fine for not paying, over and beyond the parking fees that were lost by your car being there.

Why levy a fine? Surely all they should want is to recover losses (including the cost of enforcement I guess - which might make the original sum seem more reasonable, thinking about it).Originally posted by d000hg View PostWhile that's great for consumers, it seems a bit weird that one can't levy a fine for not paying, over and beyond the parking fees that were lost by your car being there.Comment

Acknowledge your mistake, offer the cost of the ticket and ask for a breakdown of costs for anything above that, as you think that 60 pounds is totally unrealistic.Comment

Just a thought but... This is a private company and therefore cannot issue legally enforceable fines. I should think that they can however refuse to allow you to use their services in the future. What if their next letter informs you that you are no longer welcome to park on any of their sites and to do so would be trespassing.
Can they do this legally?Comment

A fine that's not much more than the cost of paying to park in the first place isn't much of a deterrent thoughOriginally posted by SpontaneousOrder View PostWhy levy a fine?
