Many sources I read also mention a considerable count of these men have deserted and surrendered to Ukraine to seek refuge due to the lack of equipment and support. -
Russian regulars are almost all gone, most of remaining won’t survive this winterOriginally posted by DealorNoDeal View PostAnd, just like in Vietnam, motivation is far more powerful than troop numbers or fire power. I bet there aren't that many of the regular army who actually want to be there, never mind the conscripts. Whereas, there is no lack of motivation on the Ukraine side.Comment

Our army, and even the reservists that were called up, are trained professionals. They could see a purpose for what they were doing.Originally posted by vetran View Post

The Russians are calling up randoms who did military service and aren't fighting for a known purpose.

It’s been suggested that the Russians are now using the war as a cleansing system to rid them of undesirables. Hence why units are so poorly organised and lack training and supplies.Comment

Re Napoleon..... the weather beat him. He was ill prepared.
Hitler beat himself. Thinking his army could fight on multiple fronts. He also didn't count on the Russians happily sacrificing millions of their own poor fighters
They didn't nearly beat the Afghans .... despite all the superior weapons they were humiliated. Have you not seen Rambo 3?I am what I drink, and I'm a bitter man
