    Mixed thoughts.

I happen to be very good with technology; when I was younger I was definitely the sort to 'mess about' and pull things apart and put them together and developed a very good talent (separate from 'skill' as that's more of an academic thing) of how the things worked. You can seriously tell the difference in the workplace between people who are IT passionate as opposed to 'skilled up' in IT. Most people making recruitment decisions of course aren't bothered.

That said, IT is just that, a hobby, and I don't really do the more fun aspects of it for work. There are a million other things I'd rather do.

Getting paid lots of money to write code and surf the web was a dream of mine.

this week, I did some coding. Then I got paid 1400 quids for sitting in my garden drinking fozzies, watching the lazy bees and scratching my nuts.
then getting my bum kissed by some know-nothing for doing a fantastic job
in previous gigs , its been a horror story

it goes in phases. and so does it

As others have said I enjoy doing 'the work' but not the machine round it. Then again I suspect most professional walks of life would say something similar.

I generally enjoy my work - but it's taken me a while to get to the point where I'm the on essentially in control of what I do.

I am only in it for the money.

There are a million things I would rather do but I earn 2-3 times what I could earn elsewhere.

I plan to ride this gravy train at least until the kids are older and then develop one of a multitude of ideas I have with a nice pile of IT earned cash behind me.

For the record, I got into IT when Scottish manufacturing died, and I couldn't find much engineering work i.e. I didn't choose it. I love technology and computers but not writing boring corporate code, or even worse the management stuff i do now.

I really enjoy what I do even when, like now, I am absolutely knackered and need a holiday as the travel is wearing me out.
I do a good job with people that I always seem to get along with and I seem to be good at the politics side of things, even though I avoid if at all possible.
I have a good network of people who work in the same niche and I appear to have a good working reputation.
My previous jobs include, waitress, cleaner, factory worker, sandwich maker, photographer etc...
Oh and my glass is always half full
I'm sorry, but I'll make no apologies for this

                    +1.

I look forward to your all knowing and likely sarcastic and unhelpful reply.

I made the mistake of doing an arty one but the aforementioned "actual interest in IT" meant I could switch sides once I'd got my foot in the door of the first place... bloody hard getting that first bit of 'experience' though!
