Phone interview (least it wasnt face to face time waster!). Small company, turns out to be more of a junior role than I've done but hey ho.

Guy asks me loads of specific (to them) tech questions. Really in depth stuff.

Must admit I was a bit put out. I really don't see the point in asking patronising questions when, as you can see from my CV, I've done more senior roles for 15-20 years for large household names. Surely if I was clueless I wouldnt have been around for this long?

Im sure this has been done before - so I dont know the command off the top of my head. So what? I can google it in 3 secs.

Best thing was the rate seems to have taken a dive for the worse since I first spoke to agency Im sure. Waste of time.....
You'd be amazed how many people with great CVs collapse at pretty simple questions. From out and out blaggers to people who say "source control's a bit pointless really", you can't beat a sanity check.

I know TFS is still as tulip as its always been (every dev here has been caught out once today by TFS being TFS) but you are a braver man than me to say that.

Suity will have a field day when he sees that you said that....

Clearly he hasn't got the contract, otherwise he wouldn't be complaining...

But if he didn't get the contract (which is junior for him) to cover his embarrassment he would just blame the interview process and... oh.. hang on..

If the questions are basic and trivial - all the better for you. You should surely be able to answer fast and accurate to all or most of them, having 20 years of experience and all. So why the moaning?

Recently i had to conduct a round of technical interviews for expanding team. You wouldn't believe how many tulip contractors with 10+ years of experience failed to answer basic questions. And i'm not talking about questions like "What is the syntax of command X? I'm talking about simple scenario based questions.

So to me 100 years of experience (especially in large clients where incompetence easier to hide) means jack tulip unless backed by actual skills/knowledge demonstrable during the technical interview.

Not me anyway. Not really my thing. But as you suggest, I dont think I'm what they're looking for anyway.
