Must admit never worked anywhere like this. 99% of places I work dont give a monkeys about the odd surf now and then AS LONG AS THE WORKS DONE. Never had problem before.
Not here- had the 'chat' because some permie saw the BBC weather page open on my lappie and appears to have dobbed me in. FFS.Comment

It's sods law that you work your arse off for 8 hours unnoticed and the second you open the internet your manager pops over to see you. Every time.
Also this is the new me - I learnt the hard way that being a clients top scoring bandwidth consumer is not conducive to contract extensions. Who knew?
RE the company: every work place differs in culture and all it takes is one sociopathic twat or insecure colleague to make your work day a misery. Head down, produce results, hone your skills, be squeaky clean, and spend all you spare time out of office hours applying for a new role! Some clients, the best day is the last Friday when you goand run out the door.

UPDATE: Stupidly I took the extension at this client. Bad idea. Got suckered with the idea that they must like me a bit to offer an extension - turns out they just wanted to screw me when it suited them.
In the past few weeks its become obvious that someone in the organisation has got a BIG issue about the cost of contractors and seems to think they need to be squeezed dry. So now the following has happened:-
1) Hours now are what they say with no flexibility. All of a sudden once I'd re-signed.
2) Continuous grief if you do something the wrong way (even if its what they said previously)
3) Complaints I spend too long in the toilet! (Seriously cant believe someone is timing it!)
4) Complaints I go to get a coffee during the 'working day'.
It really is taking the piss literally. Micro-management to the max.
Becoming obvious that this was a bad idea lol. Of course, IR35-wise its taken a downward turn.
Never worked anywhere like it. Appreciate as a paying customer the client has got a right to expect the work done, but never have I ever worked anywhere where the client has been such an asshole like this and treated contractors so badly. Thats just it I was doing the work, it was getting done better than they'd ever had before, until the stupid ideas, office politics, and permie awkwardness started. I used to pride myself on being a pro but I've just given up here. I've tried to help and come up with useful suggestions etc but they aint interested. They just ignore anything I say. So I just can't be arsed anymore.
Someone please cheer me up with stories of somewhere worse!
Seriously considering walking whether I've got something else lined up or not. So much for keep invoicing but the grief I get is causing me serious stress. No amount of money is worth this.Comment

You accepted the extension? More fool you then."I can put any old tat in my sig, put quotes around it and attribute to someone of whom I've heard, to make it sound true."
