    IT Job Fairs

OK so I know there are more contractors than permies here, but does anyone know if there are any IT job fairs these days?

When I worked in London around 2000 I remember going to a monthly thing that was often held in Piccadilly. I think there were things in Islington as well.

I've done a bit of Googling, but all I can find is a job fair for start-ups, and a whole load for recent graduates.

I guess the internet/outsourcing might have made job fairs obsolete. But it seems like they'd be good places to find jobs with mid-level companies without having to go through agencies.

I was recently invited to an IT job fair for so called "Internationals" (Dutch polite term for foreigners) in Eindhoven, guess what? organized by a temp agency.

I think it's just an event to fish for references and contacts.

Today's Job Fairs are in the shape of Jobsite, Jobserve, CW Jobs etc.

              Maybe:

Welcome to the Pakistan Job Fair 2014 at The University of Manchester

Employers are recruiting across all sectors, but with a particular focus upon scientists, engineers, IT and business.

The job fairs were something agencies used as beauty parades. They were usually organised by agency bosses who were suffering badly through a depressed market. Most people had about as much use for them as they had for a square wheel, so they died out.

When I was permie, I used to do the graduate recruitment fairs around the country to try and sell the idea of coming to work for us.

It absolutely was not so that I could try (in vain, I should add) to chat up student totty.

I did find that Silicon Milkroundabout thing, but that's not really the kind of thing I remember from before.

The ones from 14+ years ago were held in central London or in one of those Earls's Court/Olympia warehouses.

The company I worked for had a stand at one once, and they were really popular with companies like Logica.

I guess the Internet has made them obsolete, but they were kind of nice to go to, especially when you'd run out of pens or office toys .
