Starting gig - agency dont like my LinkedIn update

Starting new gig soon. Agency called today and had a right go because of something I'd put on my LinkedIn profile. Bit spooky that they've been checking it and stalking me.

Accused me of being underhand since I'd already signed with them. I explained to them that they didn't own me and whereas I was aware I had signed a contract, I reserved the right to conduct my business including contract searches how I saw fit. Told them I would continue to look up until I got on site (I have been bitten before when a gig was pulled the day before).

Agency seem to think I'm their employee for some reason. Nightmare.

Am I being unfair on them? I thought not.

How is an agent able to edit your profile?

Sorry - fixed now. It was something I'd put.

Nothing special. Just basically discussing another role with another agent.

Bit strange that original agency are stalking me like this.

Not really its quite common to look people up on LinkedIn these days.

No you aren't being unreasonable - tell them that if they mind their own business then your profile will show that once you're on site.

It's not even that. If they've added you as a connection then they don't need to look you up. Your posts would appear on their feed. Hardly stalking to log into a website and see "Talking to an agent about a job lol". And to be fair, I can understand the agents concern - it looks as though you've signed a contract with them but are discussing other gigs. Imagine the situation if you sign the contract and then see the agent post that they've just put another contractor forward to the client for that same contract. Wouldn't you be concerned?

Not really. That is the whole point of linkedin.

You said something about discussing a role with an agent. This is on your public linkedin profile? Without knowing the details do you think maybe a re-think on how you use linked in so this type of stuff isn't publicly available?
