    SC Clearence

    Hi All

I have a good contract offer for 6 months and they have asked for SC clearance. I am in Britain on ILR and have Pakistani passport. My wife is Iranian. We don't have any criminal record or anything.

What are the chances of getting SC cleared?

    Thanks,

Depends on how long you've been in the UK and how easy it is for the clearance people to do adequate background checks on you. It's not just criminal records that are involved. Generally you need to have been resident for at least 5 years.

The longer you've been here the more likely it is but it's still not guaranteed.

They will be wanting people that are SC cleared already and won't want to put you through the process, particularly when there is a risk you won't get cleared. If you read the SC sticky you will see even the UK based guys are struggling to get SC cleared roles because it's a closed shop.

How did you get the role if they are asking for clearance? You don't have it. Are they saying they will put you through the process? Something doesn't sound right here.

It appears to be who the client is as well. It seems organisations have different criteria. What might get you in the MOD might not work for the police or other public bodies for example. Looking at the posts of how some people got clearance and others didn't there seems to be some disconnect.. unless there are other factors we didn't know.

        This might help..

Watch the offer get withdrawn when the penny drops with client/agent that you don't actually have clearance.

I had offer withdrawn on friday before start because client only bothered to confirm clearance then. Despite me asking weeks before and them telling me it was sorted. (It was onsite somewhere I worked as permie with SC a few years ago).

So you didn't have clearance when you applied then?
