If the vendor is willing (and able) to sponsor you for clearance then that is their call to make. The same limitation will apply, you have to have been resident in the UK for a suitable period and the clearance people need to be able to make effective checks on your background in order to approve your clearance.

It's not just your criminal record they will check, but your financial history, your immediate families history and a number of other factors.

The thing to remember when you fill in the forms is that they probably already know the answers and are checking your honesty. If your answers differ to what they know or they can't independently confirm the information given, because you weren't t resident in the UK for example, you will not be given clearance.

I'd say forget it - while SC is supposed to be quite a quick turnaround nowadays, I doubt it would be for a non-BC with wife from a country we don't like....

There is nothing preventing them from putting you forward and sponsoring your clearance. You will be asked a number of questions and have to give personal references in this country.

I would suggest that your chances are remote, but I guess that I have about as much chance of obtaining clearance in your wife's mother-country, considering that my status as a Dead-Sea Pedestrian renders me eligible, if not desirable...?

BTW - you will need to spell a bit better on your application.

How did you get the role if they are asking for clearance? You don't have it. Are they saying they will put you through the process? Something doesn't sound right here.

It appears to be who the client is as well. It seems organisations have different criteria. What might get you in the MOD might not work for the police or other public bodies for example. Looking at the posts of how some people got clearance and others didn't there seems to be some disconnect.. unless there are other factors we didn't know.

    This might help..

I had offer withdrawn on friday before start because client only bothered to confirm clearance then. Despite me asking weeks before and them telling me it was sorted. (It was onsite somewhere I worked as permie with SC a few years ago).

Depends on how long you've been in the UK and how easy it is for the clearance people to do adequate background checks on you. It's not just criminal records that are involved. Generally you need to have been resident for at least 5 years.

The longer you've been here the more likely it is but it's still not guaranteed.
